About Nani
Ok, I know you’re wondering, who in the world is “Nani?” You can probably guess it’s a nickname for Grandma – and you’re right. But it’s not the common “Nana,” or the southern “Memaw” nicknames you’re used to. It’s pronounced “nonnie” – and it’s the Hindi name for maternal grandmother.
My daughter married a guy from India – so my granddaughter, Shreya Marie, calls me Nani. Shreya is 6 years old – and yes, that’s a Hindi name too. It means “beautiful one.” She took right to calling me Nani from the time she could talk. As far as the nickname for her Grandpa – he didn’t go the for Hindi version: Nana. haha Wonder why? So they tried all kinds of ideas, mostly “grandpa” – but she actually started calling him Papa on her own. So, Papa he is.
Recently, Shreya got a new little sister, Milayna Abigail, born Sept 6, 2017. She’s just as adorable as her big sister. Needless to say, I’m looking forward to sewing and crafting for TWO little girls now!
So, yes, I’m a grandma. I know I’m not the typical blogger these days. But I’ve been a creative person all my life – trying every creative outlet there is: art, music, sewing, needlecrafts, home decorating, cake decorating, photography, photo editing and digital graphic design … you name it, I’ve tried it. I’ve just always had a strong creative drive.
Through the years, I’ve done a lot of creative projects – and recently since the munchkin came on the scene, my creative juices have been in overdrive. I’ve enjoyed sewing little things for her, and doing crafts with her. Even trying my hand at building furniture for her. Since I’ve also done some web design and am very familiar with WordPress, I’ve been mulling over the idea of starting my own blog for a couple years now. People often ask how I do certain things, so I thought a blog would be a good way to share some of my projects.
The main purpose of my blog is not to make money – so it won’t be cluttered with those annoying ads and popups like on other blogs. I don’t mind sharing how I do my projects. But my time is valuable to me. So I participate in affiliate marketing and I’ll provide Amazon or Target affiliate links to the actual products I use and recommend – as a convenience to my readers. I may also eventually offer some handmade items, digital downloads and patterns in my shop for a small fee. That way, papa won’t think I’m “wasting” my time.
Anyway, I hope you enjoy perusing my projects. Maybe you’ll see some ideas you’d like to try yourself. If you have any questions, just drop me an email. By the way – my real name is Becky – and I live in eastern North Carolina.
