So the guestroom in our little HUD repo house was a horrible yellow color with a weird shelf on the one wall. The floor was in nice shape though, so it was sanded and refinished along with the other hardwoods in the house. We painted the walls an off white with off white trim. As you can see from the photo above, I started with a rust and gold decor.
About 5 years ago, I was ready for a change, so I painted the walls a light grayish white with white trim. I chose the blue color scheme based on the beautiful navy afghan my sister-in-law made for us. I found the comforter set at Kmart, with the eyelet shams and dust ruffle. I love the little white side table I think I ordered online from Walmart. The braided rug reminds me of my grandma for some reason. White cotton tab top curtains with pewter rods and hardware added to the crisp, light look. I also added a pretty pewter-look mirror to tie in with the dresser hardware. And found some navy blue botannical prints online that I framed for over the bed and birds on the other wall.
That’s the hand-pieced baby quilt made by my great grandmother for me when I was a baby. I hung it on the wall with a rod matching the curtain rods. That ugly brown cabinet is my sewing cabinet. If you missed the post, click HERE to see how I recently updated that to a white beadboard cabinet which fits in the room so much better now.
I also recently updated the ceiling fan to the pewter/nickel metal, with new more modern globes. You can read that post HERE.
