I created this simple, elegant diaper cake using lavender and gray ribbons and receiving blankets and bibs I made from coordinating fabrics I used on the baby quilt. The cake tied in well with the lavender and gray butterfly themed baby shower.
How To
First, I rolled up newborn diapers and held them with rubber bands. Then, I assembled them on a crystal platter, using twine to tie the layers together.
I used a paper towel roll for the center, wrapping a couple diapers around it to fit tight. After the third layer, I topped the paper towel roll with another diaper.
Then, I covered the layers with soft receiving blankets I made from flannel, pinned in place. The top layer, I used baby bibs I made with coordinating fabric scraps leftover from the lavender and gray baby quilt I made.
I tied coordinating ribbons around each layer and added bows, which were actually hairbows I had made. Then I put a purple flower on top, and used paper butterflies from the shower decorations to accent the diaper cake.
The results: Simple, elegant and practical!
