All three bedrooms in our little HUD repo house were in pretty good condition to start with. They just needed a little cosmetic making over. The hardwoods floors under the carpets were in good shape – we had them sanded and refinished. Fresh paint on the walls and trim made the rooms look like new. We put in new double-paned energy efficient windows and new ceiling fans. The decorating has changed several times in the past 14 years since we’ve been here.
Here’s what the master bedroom looked like when we bought the house.
Here’s a shot shortly after we moved in – still decorating – but you can see the dated style. I guess I was into burgundy back then. I had sheer burgundy scarves at the windows. We got new furniture shortly after we moved in.
About 4 or 5 years ago, when I redid the master bath with that pretty teal green color, I decided to paint an accent wall in the bedroom the same color. That tied me down to decor with that green. I went through 3 different comforter sets with that shade of green. This is the most recent.
Oh, and we made one of the best bedroom decisions we ever made – by upgrading to a KING bed with a memory foam mattress. No more back and hip pain at night; no more fighting for space. And we don’t wake each other up with movement. Getting much better nights’ sleep, so I highly recommend. The only downside is the mattress is a little warm, but that’s a good thing in the winter.
Master Bedroom Makeover Number 2 on the Way
I finally got tired of the green accent wall – and being tied to green decorating, so I just redid the master bedroom in shades of gray with more of a farmhouse feel. I also refinished the bedroom furniture in java gel stain and changed the hardware. And painted and stained the ceiling fan.
Here’s a sneak peek of that makeover. Click HERE to go to that detailed post.
